Our Aran Knitting Wool is sourced from our local woollen mill and is supplied in 200g hanks, each of which is around 365 yards long. To make a small wool sweater, we recommend purchasing five hanks of your chosen wool, while a large sweater will usually require around seven hanks. It is important to measure correctly and refer to the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure that you order enough wool to complete your knitting project, as variations between lots of wool tend to vary significantly.
The variety of colours in our Aran wool selection is breathtaking, and many of these shades are inspired by the natural landscapes and seascapes of Ireland. Colours such as Copper Fleck, Bilberry and Green Bushes are seen to reflect the flora and fauna we see all around us, and you can choose the perfect combination for every project and every season. Natural white is the original choice, produced from undyed sheep wool, and it is still a popular choice for Aran knitwear today. However, the vibrant turquoise and purple shades are also in high demand, and we can help you to find the perfect combination for your project.
Some of our knitting wool contains characteristic flecks, which feature in many of our clothing and homeware items. Green Fleck is a particularly appealing shade, which is reminiscent of the fascinating colour schemes we see in nature, while Green Moss, for instance, conjures images of the seaweeds and mosses that adorn the rocks and coastline of our beautiful country.
From Denim Mix to Cerise and Dusty Pink, we have a wide range of knitting wools to choose from, and you can be sure that every hank we sell is of the highest quality. We are committed to preserving the history of knitting in Ireland, and we believe you’ll notice the difference with our wools straight away!
