Irish Capes, Wraps and Ponchos

Cable and moss stitch patterns, the same used in Aran sweaters for generations, run through many of our knitted pieces, and an Irish poncho here often carries that same stitch work. Alongside ponchos, the range includes wool tweed capes and wraps, all chosen for warmth that works across most of the year, together making up our Irish Capes, Wraps and Ponchos collection.

Knitted Ponchos, Woven Capes and Wraps

Many of our knitted ponchos use the same cable and moss stitch patterns found in traditional Aran sweaters, worked by hand into pieces that pull straight over the head rather than fastening at the front. Wool used this way is naturally breathable, helping regulate temperature so a poncho stays comfortable through both warm afternoons and cooler evenings.

Some of our capes are made on looms that are over two hundred years old, with every piece finished by hand rather than machine. That older equipment is said to produce a slightly softer, more textured cloth, and it keeps a genuinely traditional method alive in current production.

Wool also insulates well and resists light rain, so a wrap or poncho holds up outdoors as much as it does layered over an evening outfit. If you want to browse just one shape, our ponchos and our capes are each listed separately, and our wraps and shawls cover the lighter, more flexible styles, all part of the same Irish Capes, Wraps and Ponchos range.
